Irish Interior Designer: Sinead Considine

August 21, 2009

Sinead Considine is an interior designer and home staging expert who worked as lead interior designer for House & Garden in Australia before opening her company, Upstage, in Ireland. Her work has appeared various times on magazines such as Ireland’s Homes Interiors and Living and Book of Interiors.

Here are some photos of her classic contemporary style. Some rooms may be a little too neutral but I  like the neutral colour palette on the soft furnishings and the use of stained wood.

Property Ladder - home renovation

I’ve been a fan of Sarah Beeny since I first watched Property Ladder (UK version), so was delighted to see it back on tv under its now more appropriate name Property Snakes and Ladders.

The show follows first-time property developers as they purchase a house and renovate it with the intention of  selling for profit while Sarah Beeny’s expert advice is often ignored. In a way the show is more interesting this year as the amateur developers need a true talent for developing since silly mistakes made will not be compensated by a rising property market.

Kirstie Allsopp is back on television, but shockingly, with no Phil. Over the past two weeks she has been on a mission to renovate Meadow Gate; a dilapidated country cottage in Devon using everything either made in the UK or made by herself.

Up to now, she has renovated the kitchen in a blue and white theme and her three bathrooms; speaking to interior designer Anouska Hempel and visiting Burgh Island Hotel for inspiration.

I have to say, I had reservations about the renovation when seeing her plans to decorate the walls with plates and some of her purchases but having seen the end result, the cottage loks beautiful. Ooh, and her attempts to make scented candles, cushion covers and blowing glass to make her own tumbler brings out the crafty side of me.

What do you think of the cottage? Check out Channel 4 for more photos and info.

As I was browsing through Design Sponge, Jeremy Levine’s remodel of his Californian home caught my eye. Turning his 400sq.ft home into a much bigger 1100sq.ft, his living space looks light and spacious as opposed to dark and pokey.

Jeremy Levine himself is an architect having graduated from the Southern Institute of Architecture. He opened Jeremy Levine Design in 2002 where you can catch more photos of the remodel.

Even though this house looks very Californian, I do wish we could see more unique homes in Dublin such as these.
